TOBY COULSON was born in New York but moved as a child to Devon England where he grew up. He went on to study photography at University College Falmouth. He now lives in London working across documentary and fashion projects.

Part of an ongoing project documenting the work of Oumou Sy.
Oumou Sy is a pioneer of art and costume design. She refused an arranged marriage at 9 years old got her first sewing machine at 13 and went on to become Senegal’s biggest name in Fashion, Theater and Film costume design. In 2022 we were invited back to Dakar to document more of her vast archive of work. We worked with local models photographing in the street of Dakar where Oumou Sy lives.
